Jacob Hamblin Home

The Jacob Hamblin Home in Kanab is a historic home that served as a home to the Hamblin family for many years. It is located at 3325 Hamblin Dr, Santa Clara, UT 84765.  The home still features authentic furniture, art work, and decor. You can also find the handloom press and other tools that were used by the family. Several of the Hamblin children also worked in the household, helping with the chores, and even harvesting fruit for the family.

Jacob Hamblin moved his family to Kanab, Utah in 1871. He later became a missionary to the Paiutes. home He was known for his ability to make friends with Native people and his honesty. He was also known to have spiritual experiences, which made him a hero to the Indians. Later, Hamblin was appointed as the president of the southern Utah Indian mission.

The Jacob Hamblin Home was built by Mormon craftsmen in 1862. It was constructed with local red sandstone and ponderosa timbers. The Hamblin family lived in the home for seven years. In 1959, the state of Utah hired stonemasons to restore the home to its original appearance. Since then, it has been operated by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

The Jacob Hamblin Home is a historic home that is open to the public. Free guided tours by senior LDS missionaries are available. This home is a great stop along a historic tour of southern Utah. Jacob Hamblin was married four times and had 24 children. He had several stepchildren and seven adopted Indian children. He helped establish the Cotton Mission in southern Utah and built several communities. His home became a church and community meeting place. In 1869, he was called to Kanab and the home passed to the Knight family. The Knight family lived in the Hamblin Home until the last few years.
